Our
parish is but one parish in the Diocese of Rochester and although
the parish was not created until the end of the nineteenth century
it was carved out of the ancient parish of St Nicholas Sevenoaks.
This little part of Kent has therefore been part of the Christian
Church for centuries and we present day Christians are here because
of the faithful witness, ministry and mission of previous generations.
It is incumbent upon us to be good stewards and to pass this heritage
on to the next generation as a lively and living faith.
But
we are aware that times change and with it society and expectations
- so we do not simply pass on a 'tradition' but a developing and
growing faith to meet the challenges and answer the questions of
the present day. Times change but God 'is the same yesterday and
today' and we seek to worship him in spirit and in truth, we celebrate
what is good from the past, we reach out to the future.
We
are here, with our friends in other local churches, to proclaim
the word and work of God, to show his love for all and to know him
and make him known. We are church to serve the parish and we seek
to serve and be available to all regardless of their church affiliation.
We offer a regular round of daily and weekly worship centred on
the Eucharist, we baptize, marry and conduct funerals, we provide
study groups and teaching, we cater for our children, young people
and adults - and the aim always is make God real to people and to
provide an environment where we can meet him and let him continue
his work of transformation in our lives.
