Easter at St Mary's - 2026

We had a most enjoyable time over Easter which included a mix of faith and quiet joy.

Palm Sunday began by remembering Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem when those who were able, gathered in Riverhead Square Car Park at 9:20am where there were words of welcome together with a prayer and Blessing.  Everyone had been given Palm Branches which were held up during the prayer, followed by singing the chorus and first verse of “All glory laud and honour”. Everyone then processed into church, following the Crucifer.  The service continued with the passion readings, beautifully read by a few members of the congregation.

On Good Friday, there were two church services, the family service at 10am which included inviting children to create an Easter Garden with plants, stones and three crosses, all with the help of Margaret Curtis, Lynn Wilson and Clare, one of the Mums.  That was then followed by eating hot cross buns.  Most enjoyable. The afternoon service was still and contemplative, inviting those present to pause and remember the weight of the Easter story.

Then, as Easter Sunday dawned, there was a short service at 6am outside the vestry door, followed by a walk and breakfast back at the church hall. The atmosphere at the 9.30am service then transformed into a joyous celebration with the pews full and the church alive with hope and renewal.

These solemn and joyful moments capture the heart of Easter: reflection giving way to renewal, and community bound together in faith and celebration.

A few pictures below showing the church decorated for Easter and a few of the intrepid walkers, plus a beautiful photo of the sunrise!
